The Rocna® anchor
The Rocna is the no-compromises solution intended to provide the best possible anchor for any vessel that needs secure anchoring. It is designed with a philosophy of simplicity and durability, and built to the highest engineering standards.
Peter originally built the first Rocna prototypes for personal use, after decades of frustration with old generation anchors. Peter’s voyaging includes extreme environments that demand a lot from the anchoring equipment on a vessel, and this experience was distilled into the Rocna design which was commercialized only later when prompted by interest and demand.
Independent testing consistently sees the Rocna return top results, the result of the lifetime of nautical experience that has been poured into each anchor.
The Rocna® Fisherman anchor
The Rocna Fisherman is a variant of the Rocna itself, with the simple addition of a shackle rail™ which facilitates easier recovery of the anchor if fouled. Designed as a specialist fish and dive anchor, the Rocna Fisherman also has a convential secure rode attachment point for overnight or unattended anchoring.
Available only in smaller sizes, this anchor brings to the small fish or dive boat all the performance advantages of the Rocna itself.
The Vulcan® anchor
The Vulcan brings the security and reliability of Rocna to a wider range of boaters. It is designed to easily fit vessels with platforms, bowsprits, or other protrusions that would preclude the installation of a Rocna anchor.
This new design offers performance similar to that of the Rocna, using a unique shank and fluke geometry to replace the roll-bar on its elder sibling.
Peter Smith
Peter Smith is a New Zealand boat builder, long distance cruiser and offshore sailor, and designer of the Rocna anchor range. He currently is living and cruising on his expedition yacht, Kiwi Roa.
Peter, born 1947, has been sailing since his youth, and has spent most of his life on the water. He co-founded Cavalier Yachts, one of New Zealand’s most prestigious yacht building companies. In 1979 Peter left New Zealand on a Cavalier 39, and has been cruising the world in one form or another ever since.
Around the turn of the millenium, Peter decided that none of the then available anchor types were good enough for him or his boat, and began work on developing the ultimate boat anchor. That project turned into the commercialization of the Rocna anchor.
